What a day at Toyota Speedway! I arrived at the gates at 10 A.M. and I nervously reached for the door handle, remembering the scorching heat from last time. I reluctantly pulled the lever and to my surprise, it was really nice outside! It warmed up a little as the day went on, but nothing unbearable. When I walked in, the car show was already in full swing. My first stop was to check out the car Mad Mac was raffling off.

As my eyes cracked open to the sound of my alarm clock, at an hour that shouldn’t exist on weekends, I thought to myself, Is it really time to get up? Then I remembered, It’s Sideways Sunday, and I sprung to my feet. I rushed to load the car and peeled off to Toyota Speedway! I arrived at the parking lot at 9:30 AM. As I stepped out of the car, I noticed a strange melting sensation taking over my body… It was already BLISTERING HOT! Luckily I had an umbrella for shade and plenty of Gatorade! The first thing I noticed was the laid back vibe. Several drivers were in Las Vegas for FD. That opened up some slots for other drivers, and gave us time for contests and shade! The water balloon toss sparked off a free for all water fight, with Troy Adams seeming to get the worst of the punishment.
On July 31, 2011, was another Sideways Sundays event that took place at Irwindale Speedway, CA, from 10 AM to 4 PM. It was a drifting event hosted by Adams Motorsports that was geared more for the grassroots crowd/drifters. Some of the festivities consisted of a car show, live DJs, vendors, models, contests, prizes, and of course the non-stop drifting action.
